CASH GRAB - Lookdev and Render Style Concept Art

Concept Keyframe (not final render) for the animated short "Cash Grab".

We were able to match the keyframes fairly closely, using a combination of texture work, toon shaders, and compositing techniques.

I was responsible for the overall look dev/styles, shaders, textures, rendering and compositing for the film as a whole.

The characters were designed with the linework incorporated as part of the texture maps. They were rendered with Arnold, using a custom toon shader to capture the flat shaded look we were after. Rim lights were connected to the rim lights to avoid a look that was too even. and to allow us to control exactly where the light hit. Seperate render passes were then used in comp to add a hand drawn texture to the shadows. Z-Pass maps were used to add colour splitting effects to elements as they got further away from the camera. The characters were animated in twos to further the graphic look.
